My husband and I just attended our first “Welcoming Pregnancy” group last night and are so glad we did. We are new to the area and while we have been craving a connection with other people welcoming their first child, I was still overwhelmed by the value of just sitting with other people dealing with the same questions, frustrations, confusion and joys. Jodi–and Allison, I believe–were warm, calming and extremely knowledgeable; they struck the perfect balance of listening to us and dispensing helpful wisdom that we may not have been aware of. We didn’t have to endure any embarrassing ice breaker exercises, or patronizing questions/sharing activities; it was just a welcoming and reasonable discussion/intro to other couples and the basics of what to expect. I felt safe, cozy and was grateful too that they had the foresight to provide snacks! I was particularly happy to find the environment inclusive of all approaches of care and one of advocacy for the parents. The last thing an expecting couple needs is judgment about their approach to care and questions about delivery. I cannot recommend this class enough. My only regret is that our group will not be ongoing! Well done (and thanks)!
